Boo goes to... FFXV Premiere

November 24, 2016

So yesterday I went to the IGN Premiere of Final Fantasy XV on a local movie theater armed only with a quick overview of what a Chocobo and a Moogle are, during morning shower.
Well, that and the most obvious information that this is actually the fifteenth game of the Final Fantasy series (without counting the multiple games about the same world like XIII or so I was told :P).

So let's start from the beginning.

From what I understand Chocobos are the horse equivalents of the Final Fantasy World, while Moogles are a race of cute little things (that say 'Kupo') which take care of things like being a mailman among others.
With this in mind, me and my overly excited boyfriend took haste to the event after a regular work day, ready to stay inside a movie theater full of FFF (Final Fantasy Fans) for the next 3,5 hours (Damn, I should've gone to the bathroom first...).

The event started with a pack of goodies being distributed to everyone in the audience. Among these goods were some nice stickers related with the world characters and a pack of some strange looking popcorn in a Moogle package:

Then came a 30 minute wait while some game trailers were being played on loop for the anxious audience to be entertained. During this time, all I hear around me is a vocabulary in which I can only understand some few words:

"Hey did you play the Final Fantasy XIII Games? How awesome was the scene when Lightning kicked..."
"... no I like to play DOTA more now..."

As I was feeling like a Stranger in a Stranger Land (and here you go, an awesome geek reference to the science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein, which is on my geek-to-read-list) and full of questions, my boyfriend (from now on referred to as Dustbit) sat put trying to explain everything from the Final Fantasy Series like a speech translator.

So after these 30 minutes, finally the event began its transmission all the way from London to us.
Cosplayers, game stuff, the mastermind behind all the epicness - Hajime Tabata-  and other staff members from Square Enix (the company responsible for the Final Fantasy series) and game revelations took presence in the event. In short the epicenter of a geek earthquake started and I was right on it.

And then after all this game stuff and hype (geek word for "Highly excited/anticipating something") which I will take my time to assimilate, a quick break was the order to a massive geek disband, everyone running for the sake of their bladders to the bathroom (me included).

After this refreshing moment everyone got back to their seats, and me and Dustbit decided to try the Moogle popcorn. As I carefully start chewing the first one, after hearing someone nearby saying that they were gross, it only took me half a second to realize that person was right... Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww... It tasted like a spicy, acid something... (it turned out to be lemon+chili flavoured popcorn, as it was written on the ingredients in the package).
As I was trying to shake off the taste off my mouth, I sat there staring at Dustbit who looked like he wasn't enjoying it that much as well, however, to my surprise, he kept eating one after another.

"Do you like it?", I asked incredulously.
"Well, no, but it's a treat from the moogles for us!", He replied laughing.

After a bit the movie session was about to begin.
The movie in cause was the prequel to the FFXV game story, entitled Kingsglaive, which introduced some memorable characters and some out of this world animation quality that I did not know was possible.
The entire movie is animated and feature the voices of Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman in one of my all time favorite series, Breaking Bad), Sean Bean, (Game of Thrones, LOTR, also big fan here) and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister in GOT).

I got hooked from start to finish: lots of action and pure fantasy story that transported me into a different reality.
If you're a fan of action and fantasy worlds, I highly recommend you to see this movie.

And that was it, an experience I loved, a new game reality that I discovered and got sucked into, which in short, is just another day in KittyBoo's life.
